On August 19, 2022, the Florida Lottery made an announcement that a second-tier prize worth $1 million from the $50 "500X The Cash" scratch-off game was claimed by a resident of Alabama, named - Thomas Fotopoulos, aged 53.
Fotopoulos has been trying his luck in Florida Lottery for a very long time and had been buying tickets in the Sunshine State since 1988. In a press release, the lucky winner said, "I just had some feeling about the '500X The Cash' game. And I still can't believe my win over it!"

The grand lottery winner bought this $1 million winning ticket at Fortune Liquors on Highway 231 in Campbellton. A lottery retailer that is situated right over the Alabama-Florida border and is about a 20-minute drive from Dothan, Alabama. After drawing this huge jackpot, the store receives a bonus of $2,000 from the Florida Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
The Alabama resident chose to receive his prize money as a one-time lump-sum payment of $820,000 before taxes. Also, as per the official state lottery report, there are still 83 out of 160 second-tier prizes left to claim by the players. Even one of the two top prizes of $25 million each remains unclaimed. In addition to this 155 out of 300 third-tier prizes of $50,000.
