About The Commission

The Michigan Lottery began when the Green Ticket game started on November 13, 1972. The first The Big Game which is now known as Mega Millions ticket was sold on August 31, 1996. Ever since then, the Michigan Lottery has donated more than $20.7 billion to the School Aid Fund.

On March 25, 2018, Brian O. Neill was appointed tenth Commissioner of the Michigan Lottery. The Michigan Lottery mission is to maximize the net revenues to supplement state education programs. The commission also focuses on operating all games and bureau functions with nothing less than total integrity.

Proceeds from Lottery ticket sales and unclaimed prizes go back to the community for -Michigan School Aid Fund (K-12 Education)
