New York Lottery is a state-operated lottery of the United States that began in 1967 with the slogan, “Your Chance Of A Lifetime To Help Education”. The Lottery, as part of the New York Gaming Commission, provides revenue for public education. Before the 20th century, the revenue generated by the lotteries in New York was used for non-educational needs. It helped in the infrastructural and industrial development of New York. It was on November 8, 1966, the people of New York voted to approve a constitutional amendment authorizing a government-run lottery. The proceeds of this government-run lottery would specifically be applied to aid and support education in New York. Since its establishment, the lottery has generated over $34 billion for aiding educational revenue.

It was on June 13, 2014, that New York Lottery replaced it’s “Sweet Million” with Cash4Life. The first drawing of the New York Cash4Life took place on June 16, and since then the lottery has produced a considerable number of winners for lifetime prizes.
