A Florida man who won a $2 million top prize on a scratch-off lottery ticket credits his pregnant pet dog.
The lucky winner, Leonard Linton, 42, of Pinetta, claims that his lovely little pooch, Ivy, is responsible for his $2 million Florida Lottery win.
While he was away, Linton received a call informing him that his poor dachshund was not feeling well. He took a detour home in order to get to her as soon as possible.
He made a quick stop at the Stop N Shop grocery store on East Howard Street in Live Oak, where he purchased a lottery ticket for the Florida Lottery's $10 "100X The Cash" instant game.
That's when Linton knew he and Ivy were in for a big paw-party.
"I still can't believe it," he said when asked if he has any big plans. "This is a life-changing event, but I'm getting Ivy a new kennel!"
He and his beloved dog traveled to Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee to claim his prize, which he chose to receive in the form of a $1.645 million lump-sum payment.
For selling the winning ticket, the Stop N Shop will receive a $4,000 bonus commission.
Just after Linton's (and Ivy's) victory, five of the eight top prizes of $2 million remain in the "100X The Cash" scratch-off game, which debuted in January. There are also 12 out of 20 $100,000 second-tier prizes and 64 out of 101 $10,000 third-tier prizes left to be claimed.
