On August 26, 1971, the Pennsylvania Lottery was established with the enactment of Act 91 of 1971. Initially, the proceeds of the lottery were targeted to provide property tax relief for the seniors of Pennsylvania. Since its establishment, the lottery has funded programs including rent debates, the low-cost prescription drug programs PACE and PACENET, long-term living services, free and reduced-fare transit, and the 52 Area Agencies on Aging, including full- and part-time senior centers across Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Lottery is the only state lottery that targets all its proceeds to the seniors or the older residents of Pennsylvania. Treasure Hunt held it’s first-ever drawings on May 8, 2007. Since then, the lottery has produced a considerable number of Treasure Hunt winners.
