In One Week Two Mega Millions Lottery Jackpots Won In Massachusetts

Two Mega Millions jackpots worth $31 million each were bagged by the state of Massachusetts, in just one week. The state is surely flowing in a stream of luck, where a lottery player won a $31 million Mega Millions jackpot just one week after another player in the state won a jackpot of almost the same value.

On Tuesday, January 24, a lucky ticket won the multi-state Mega Millions lottery worth $31 million with the winning numbers 33, 41, 47, 50, 62, and Mega Ball 20. Absolutely a week later, on Tuesday, January 31, another player from Massachusetts, who was the only ticket holder for the same came forward with the same winning deal but obviously different digits. The winning numbers for the lottery were  7, 9, 18, 29, and 39, with Mega Ball 13.

The most exciting part of this whole win-win air on the land was that both the winning tickets were Quick Picks and were sold at stores just about an hour and a half apart from each other.

According to the sources, for last Tuesday's draw, a Stop & Shop grocery store on famous Hannum Street in Belchertown sold the jackpot-winning ticket. Also, the winner of this Tuesday's drawing bought the life-changing ticket at Gibbs on Winn Street in Woburn, a gas station about 20 minutes away from Boston. Both the stores received $50,000 each as a bonus for selling the winning tickets respectively.

According to the Massachusetts Lottery, both these jackpots were the largest prizes won in Massachusetts since the $758.7 million Powerball jackpot was hit in August 2017.

Also, this is the fifth time a Mega Millions jackpot is won in Massachusetts since 2002 when the game expanded and got its name changed from The Big Game to Mega Millions. Out of these five wins over the past two decades, two of these lucky wins occurred just a week apart.

"This has been an incredibly exciting week for us in Massachusetts," Interim Executive Director Mark William Bracken of the Massachusetts Lottery told Lottery Post. "We've had our fair share of big winners over the years, but we've never seen two jackpot wins so close together. It demonstrates that anything is possible — you never know when your lucky day will arrive."

The last time a Massachusetts resident won a Mega Millions jackpot was in October 2012, when a ticket sold at the AM/PM Convenience store in Hyannis divided a $61 million jackpot with another ticket sold in California.

The two Mega Millions jackpot winners from this week have one year from the date of the draw to claim their $31 million prizes, which must be claimed at the Massachusetts Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.
