We have the first Powerball millionaire of the year - 2023!

A man from North Carolina has been named as the first lottery player to become the newest millionaire in 2023 during ABC's broadcast of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Secrest.

As soon as the clock struck midnight, Gary Krigbaum of Spindale, North Carolina, got lucky and won $1 million in the "Powerball First Millionaire of the Year" promotion and became the first player in 2023 to bag millions of dollars in the lottery. 

Across the USA, many state lotteries hold their own second chance drawings to determine the finalists to take part in New Year's drawing in New York City. Krigbaum won the second chance draw with the New York Lottery and turned out to be one of the 29 Powerball players chosen nationwide to participate in the drawing for $1 million. 

He won the trip to New York, but his daughter, Sarah Day, traveled on his behalf and represented him on the national stage.

During the worldwide broadcast held on New Year's Eve, the final selection for who would enter the final drawing for $1 million was narrowed down to just 5 people, that included Krigbaum also. He was certainly the last one standing in the group and the first one to become a million dollars richer when the "NC" ball came up in the drawing. 

Hearing the news, Day exclaimed "Dad, Dad, I'm bringing home a million dollars," after she won instead of him. Other residents from North Carolina who won the VIP trip to New York City and spend the holiday weekend in Times Square, were also present to have a glance at the spectacle. 

Day told Ryan Seacrest on National TV, "I want my dad to have as much of it as possible. I want him to go fishing and get his truck and whatever he needs in his life."

"Powerball First Millionaire of the Year" for 2023 promotion marks the fourth Powerball partnership with "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest" in Times Square.
