History
The Illinois Lottery was established on July 1, 1974. Back then Illinois was the only state lottery to have its drawings televised nationwide. Initially, the lottery sold “passive” games through weekly drawings.
Originally the game was introduced as Cash 5 on June 1, 1988, which began as a 5/35, that was drawn on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The game’s name was changed to “Little Lotto” on May 15, 1989. On April 6, 1990, new drawing balls were introduced and the game started using a Beitel Criterion drawing machine. After multiple changes in 1994, 1998, and 2004, the final alterations were done on July 14, 2014, wherein Lucky Day Lotto was changed to 5/45, with 4/5, 3/5, and 2/5 payouts got doubled with the same jackpot theory. Since the game’s introduction, Lucky Day Lotto has produced a number of lottery winners.
