The Daily Derby is one of the most unique games in the California Lottery. The California Lottery sold its first ticket in October 1985 and since then funneled more than $30.9 billion into California’s educational institutions, public schools, and colleges. The Lottery Commission of California is charged with generating supplemental funding for public education in California.

The Daily Derby is a racing-themed lottery that features two chances to win with each play and a daily draw. For playing the lottery you need to bet on the outcome of a virtual “horse race”. To play you just need a Daily Derby playslip, that you can find at any Lottery retailer for $2, per play and mark 3 horses that you believe will finish in the first, second and third place. Or you can also opt for the Quick Pick Method, to have horses or Race Times randomly selected for you. Then you need to pick the time, you think, will be taken by the first horse to finish the race. This is known as the Race Time and can be any time from 1:40:00 i.e. one minute, forty seconds to 1:49:99 i.e. one minute, 49.99 seconds. All you need to do is provide the last 3 digits of your Race Time by selecting one number from each column on the playslip. You also have the option of playing the same horses and Race Time for up to 14 consecutive draws on one playslip by marking the Advance Play option.

After purchasing ensure to check your ticket immediately and note that the horses, Race Time and draw(s) you’ve marked on your playslip are correctly mentioned. We strongly advise you to sign the back of your lottery ticket to indicate ownership.
