History

The Rhode Island Lottery or The Lot is governed by the government of Rhode Island. The Lottery was inaugurated in 1974, following the constitutional amendment passed in 1973. The purpose of the lottery then was to use the revenue generated to make up for the revenue lost from allowing the value of a trade-in automobile toward the sales tax liability on a new automobile. The first ticket for The Lot was sold for 50¢ with a top prize of $50,000. The Lottery is the largest voluntary source of income for the State, benefiting all who live, work and visit the Ocean State.

It was in 2002, that Wild Money replaced Money Roll, and became the most played game of the Rhode Island Lottery, with a rolling jackpot of $20,000.
