History
The idea of creating a lottery in Maine was proposed by Rep. Arthur Genest of Waterville. It was in 1973, that Genest sponsored the bill to establish a lottery in Maine. The bill was approved by the Senate, as well as by the public and the operations of the lottery began in 1974.
The first lottery numbers of the government-run Maine Lottery were drawn by Governor Kenneth M. Curtis. The proceeds by the Maine Lottery are transferred to the State’s General Fund which supports programs and services for the citizens of the State of Maine. Maine Lottery encapsulates really exciting lottery games like Mega Millions, Powerball, Pick 3, Pick 4, Tri State Megabucks, Lotto America, Gimme 5, and many more, so you always have a chance to win something big!
