10th Largest Powerball Lottery Jackpot Worth $680 Million Up For Next Draw

This week lottery players across the U.S. are in a race to win the next Powerball jackpot worth $680 million, which is now termed one of the largest lottery jackpots in history. You'd be correct if you think it's been a long time since Powerball had a jackpot winner. Powerball has been drawn 35 times in a row since the last winner on August 3 – a three-month streak.

All of those drawings have amassed a vast sum of money, ready to offer a multi-generational fortune to the lucky lottery winner who wins it all.

When there were no Powerball jackpot winners on Monday night, the new jackpot for Wednesday's drawing was expected to be $680 million, with a lump-sum payment option of $326.1 million.

It is the tenth-largest lottery jackpot in US history, although the cash option is just the twenty-first-largest ever given.

Players should be aware that jackpot values are conservative estimates issued by lotteries and are frequently slightly higher by the time the drawing takes place. For example, the jackpot for Monday's drawing was originally estimated to be $610 million, but by the time all the profits were calculated right before draw time, it had risen to $637.8 million.

Of course, any huge winner (or winners) of Wednesday's Powerball jackpot will have to pay taxes on their winnings, so the website The Lottery Lab offers a handy Tax Analysis page where you can calculate the federal and state taxes that will be withheld upon settlement. The feature computes both the initial withholdings and the final tax burden owed at the end of the year, and it can even display taxes computed for various IRS filing statuses.

On Monday, October 24, 2022, the winning numbers were 18, 23, 35, 45, and 54, with Powerball number 16. The Power Play number was 4.

The results of the Wednesday Double Play drawing were 12, 48, 51, 63, and 67, with Powerball number 26. Double Play is a game option that is now available in 14 states that allows you to enter your numbers in a second drawing for $1 per play and win up to $10 million in cash. For more information on Double Play, see How to Play Powerball at The Lottery Lab.

Despite the fact that no one won the jackpot on Monday, one lucky player from Texas matched the first five numbers for a $1,000,000 prize. The next Powerball drawing will be held on Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

Powerball is available in 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands. The drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Each ticket costs $2.
