It was an unbelievable day for a Chicago-area lottery player, who could finally declare that his dedication paid off when he picked up his check for a $19.5 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot.
The Hoosier Lottery announced yesterday that a $19.5 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot was won by one of its most dedicated players.
It was also the 89th consecutive drawing with no winner after a $5 million jackpot that was won on Oct. 30, 2021.
For two days, Manuel M. was unaware that he even had a jackpot-winning ticket in his possession. He learned about the victory because the clerks at the convenience shop remembered him as a regular customer.
A few days after buying his Hoosier Lotto ticket, the employees at Ridgeway #5 on 45th Street in Munster informed him that they had sold a ticket that had won the jackpot and enquired as to whether he had verified his numbers. It was all good news from there when he went home to check his ticket.
Manuel said to the Lottery, "When I discovered I won, I absolutely could not believe it." "I started to perspire. I started calling my sisters as everything began to sink in. On that evening, we got together. Screaming and wailing were heard. It probably took us a half-day to gather our thoughts before we began to discuss it."
The player, who had consistently participated in the Lottery's various draw games for more than 20 years by playing three to four times per week, had undoubtedly felt the effects of the win. The Lottery claimed that the biggest prize he had ever won was $5,000.
Manuel, who spent more than 30 years working in chemical operations at a plant, said that the truth has not yet really sunk in.
I feel better than I did a few years ago, he said. “I continue to be ecstatic and in shock.”
The Lottery Executive Director Sarah M. Taylor held up a sizable ceremonial check in his place when he arrived with his family yesterday to accept his reward at the Lottery's offices in Indianapolis.
The retired person's winning numbers for the drawing held on Wednesday, September 7 were 3, 5, 8, 18, 31, and 40. He bought a Quick Pick when he bought the winning ticket.
"You constantly consider what you would do if you won the lotto and who you would help before you really win," Manuel remarked. "I have not yet thought about the following measures. I'll eventually give back and take a well-earned holiday."
