A week after announcing a big win from Arizona, a couple from a residential area in Phoenix came forward to claim the $410 million Mega Millions Jackpot prize. This is the largest jackpot prize anyone from Arizona has ever won to date and is the 11th largest in the history of Mega Millions jackpots.
The Glendale couple, 70 and 63 years old, respectively matched all the six numbers, 1, 5, 9, 10, and 23 along with the Mega Ball number 22. The husband and wife opted for the cash option over an annuity, which meant they took home an astounding $228 million after the tax deductions.
The couple chose to remain anonymous as permitted by the Arizona State Laws. Recently legislation was passed which allows the winners of jackpots of $100,000 or more to request that their names should not be made public. The new measure grants total anonymity which aims to protect lottery winners from potential harassment or worse if the names go public.
Despite keeping their identities a secret, the couple did disclose few details about their big win. One of these details included that they had picked their winning numbers based on the birthday of their family.
The couple stated that winning for them is an amazing feeling and is a proof that you can’t win if you don’t play. The newfound winning of the couple will pay off their mortgage and support their children and grandchildren.
The Powerball jackpot had rolled over 33 times since it was last won on February 11. This big win marks the largest Mega Millions jackpot since the $522 million Mega Millions jackpot claimed in California last September.
After this massive hit in Arizona, the Mega Millions jackpot was set as $20 million, down from usual $40 million, due to the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
