Not double-checking the winning lottery ticket could have cost this Maryland man $50,000. A landscaper barely managed to escape the winning lottery ticket, which he was about to throw that had hit a $50,000 prize by playing Fast Play Lucky Numbers, which he absolutely did not realize.
The 50-year-old lucky winner was on his way back home from work when he stopped at the US Fuel gas station on Crain Highway in Waldorf to play the lottery.
Recently he had tried a game from the Maryland Lottery's newly launched Fast Play games and wanted to try his luck again. This time he had bet for $10 on the Lucky Numbers Game with a progressive jackpot and gave it a quick glance. At first, it did not appear to be a winner, so he thought of turning the slip in the trash.
But, before he did, he noticed a bonus game at the bottom of the ticket that offered him a second chance to win a prize.
The winner told the Mayland Lottery, that, "I almost balled it up and threw it out, but before I did, I scanned the ticket with the Lottery's app while sitting in my car," The winner then received a congratulatory message accompanied by a note that he had won a $50,000 prize.
The Charles County, lottery winner was more than relieved that he did not throw his lucky ticket. He immediately called up his family to tell them what exactly happened. He recalled that he was shaking while telling them everything. According to him the prize money of $50,000 will go a long way and will help him cover the relocation expenses when he moves into a new house or an apartment.
