A lucky person in Marland became the first Powerball player in the United States to win the $10 million Double Play top prize.
A Maryland Lottery player made history after buying a Powerball ticket with the newly launched Double Play for September 27th drawing and won the first $10 million top prize from the add-on feature's additional drawing.
The winning lottery ticket was sold at the Exxon gas station on Rockville Pike in Rockville and matched all the numbers in the Sept. 27 Double Play drawing. Which were 2, 27, 51, 62, and 66, with Powerball number 1. With the winner being lucky, the retailer also got the chance to share some of the luck by receiving a $10,000 bonus for selling the historic ticket.
In a press release, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin said, “It's always exciting when the jackpot is rolling, but selling the very first $10 million-winning Double Play ticket takes it to a whole different level,” “We've now had a Powerball jackpot prize and a Double Play top-tier prize in Maryland this year.”
Double Play is a newly launched add-on feature by Powerball, that gives its players an additional chance to match their Powerball numbers in a second drawing with a top cash prize of $10 million, for an extra $1. The winners of this top prize do not choose whether to receive an annuity or the cash option like they would in the regular Powerball game. The top prize in Powerball Double Play is always cash.
Double Play is available in 13 lottery jurisdictions, including Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Washington.
