With people getting ready to cast away 2020 with a sigh of relief, the United States’s two biggest multi-state lottery games feature jackpots worth nearly $800 million combined that can instantly change the life of someone who is lucky enough to crack the winning numbers!
As both the jackpots are set to nearly hit the mark of $400 million for the coming draw for the first week of 2021, but no lucky player was able to match the winning six numbers this week.
The jackpot for both the games swelled this high back in 2018, where they summed up to nearly $1 billion. It is the second time in history that these two million dollar lottery games have soared up to $800 million.
Mega Millions started rolling with $20 million on September 18 and has rolled for a total of 30 times. Prior to the changes made in rules, the jackpot used to start at $40 million. Without a top prize winner, the jackpot has rolled up to $401 million for the next drawing on Friday, January 1, 2021. at 11:00 p.m. with a cash value of $305.4 million.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot has also soared up to $384 million with a cash value of $295.4 million. The jackpot started rolling at $20 million on September 19 and has completed 30 rollovers to date. With Coronavirus impacting the sales, the minimum jackpot amount for Powerball too was decreased from $40 million to $20 million. The draw is all set to be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 10:59 pm EST.
