A mechanic from North Carolina won almost $200,000 on a lottery ticket that he completely forgot about!
Gregory Warren of Franklinville, from North Carolina, stopped for gas after work and decided to give his luck a chance on the Cash 5 ticket, which ended up making him win half of a $391,870 jackpot.
Warren said, "I don't buy lottery tickets very often," "It just so happens I picked a good day to buy one!" The lucky mechanic, bought his Quick Pick ticket for the September 29 drawing from the BP on U.S. 64 East in Asheboro. He completely forgot about the ticket until the following week only when he remembered that he needed to check his numbers.
He said, "I totally forgot about it", as he collected his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. He said, "I am still kind of shocked, I could not get a whole lot of sleep last night as I was too excited."
Warren's ticket was one of the two tickets that split the $391,870 jackpot. After the federal and state tax deductions, he took home $138,624. The lucky winner said, that the newfound wealth may give him the opportunity to change his career. He said he has a 14-year old son and he wants to get a business started so that he'll have something to do when he graduates from high school.
The second half of the North Carolina Cash 5 lottery jackpot was claimed by Danielle Godette of New Bern. The Cash 5 lottery tickets are $1 with drawings held every single night.
