Deciding to play the lottery, a Massachusetts lottery player visited a gas station to purchase a ticket, but upon finding it closed, instead moved to another one to win a $10.4 million Megabucks Doubler jackpot.
Stephen Pereira of Fairhaven actually intended to buy the Megabucks Doubler ticket at a nearby gas station, but the retailer was shut for any form of business. Some players with a go-to store might consider it as bad luck, but for Pereira, this might have been a fateful encounter that earned him a $10 million jackpot.
Discovering that the gas station store was not operating, he visited the 7-eleven convenience store on Huttleston Avenue in Fairhaven and purchased the Quick Pick ticket for the Megabucks Doubler drawing on Saturday, March, 20.
His decision of Quick Pick made him win the $10.04 million jackpot, the largest ever won in the Megabucks Doubler game since March 11, 2017, when a whopping amount of $11.34 million was won on a single ticket, according to the Massachusetts Lottery.
The winning numbers on Pereira's lottery ticket were 2, 16, 23, 27, 31, and 45.
Pereira visited the Lottery Headquarters in Dorchester to claim his winnings and chose the cash option, which summed up to be $8,424,485, before tax deductions. With the newfound wealth, he plans on paying off the debts, mortgages and support the future of his children. The 7-eleven store will receive a $25,000 bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.
The Megabucks Doubler Drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 11:20 p.m. EST. Each ticket costs $2. So what's making you stop, get your hands on the ticket and convert the $1 investment into a million-dollar reward with The Lottery Lab.
