The winning Powerball lottery ticket worth $2 Billion is finally sold!
Millions of people across the United States had to wait ten extra hours to find out if they were the winners of the mammoth Powerball jackpot, due to the state's inability to deal with a huge amount of ticket sales.
When the draw finally did occur on Tuesday morning, it came out that just one ticket that was sold in California matched all the six winning numbers and bagged the entire jackpot.
After all the sales were tallied by the officials, the jackpot turned out to be worth $2 billion in 30 installments over 29 years, or $997.6 million in cash all at once.
It took a total of almost 41 drawings to finally produce a winner worth becoming a millionaire. This particular drawing by the Powerball lottery has had the longest sequence of draws in the history of Powerball, and by far the largest lottery jackpot won in world history.
And all of this hype is credited to just one ticket sold in California and the amazing jackpot prize.
The winning ticket to this most talked about lottery jackpot was sold at Joe's Service Center, at 15 W. Woodbury Rd. in Altadena, California.
One of the biggest advantages of winning a lottery prize in California is that there is no state tax applicable to lottery prizes. You only have to pay federal taxes. This means after federal tax deductions, the winner will end up with $1.3 billion over 29 years, or $628.5 million in cash.
As per the California Lottery rules, the winners can't claim the prize money anonymously, so we'll soon find out who the lucky winner is.
The Powerball winning numbers for November 7, 2022, were 10, 33, 41, 47, and 56, with the Powerball number 10 and Power Play number 2. The results for the Powerball Double Play drawing were 1, 21, 27, 29, and 40, with Powerball number 18. The Double Play option is currently available in only 14 states that allow you to play your numbers in a second drawing for an extra $1 per play, with a chance to win cash prizes up to $10 million. Aside from the California jackpot winner, there are other significant winners who bagged millions in the drawing. 23 other lucky winners matched the first 5 numbers for a $1,000,000 prize, which were 3 from California, 3 from Florida, 1 from Georgia, 1 from Louisiana, 1 from Maryland, 1 from Massachusetts, 1 from Michigan, 2 from Missouri, 3 from New Jersey, 1 from North Carolina, 1 from Ohio, 1 from Oregon, 1 from Pennsylvania, 1 from South Carolina, 1 from Texas, and 1 from Washington. (The California winners each will claim a prize of $1,149,661, due to the state's pari-mutuel payout formula.)
The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Wednesday night at 10:59 pm Eastern Time.
Currently, the Powerball lottery is offered to play in 45 states, plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The drawings for the game are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, with a ticket cost of $2 each.
