If you drove by your North Carolina gas station last week and shrugged off the idea of playing Pick 4 lottery, you might be kicking yourself right now. The drawing held on Saturday, June 22, 2019, was unusual and produced about 2,014 first prizes of worth $5,000 or ($2,500) winning tickets. You could have been one of those 2,014 winning tickets.
You must be wondering how there could be 2,014 first prize-winning tickets. It is because of the unusual numbers that appeared in the drawing: 0-0-0-0, won the $7.8 million jackpot, the largest ever in a single drawing in the game, according to the statement released by the North Carolina Education Lottery. Before that, this sort of large amount in the single draw was won back in August 2012, when “1-1-1-1” appeared in the drawing.
The odds of matching all four numbers in NC Pick 4 drawing are 1 in 10,000, according to the lottery. The four zeros are also known as "Quads" among players in Pick 4, and they're one of the most popular combination numbers played, the lottery said. And although they are the most commonly played combination, it has never been drawn before!
Of the total 2,014 winning tickets, there were 1,002 $1 tickets worth $5,000 each and 1,012 50 cent tickets worth $2,500 each, as stated by the lottery.
Winners have 180 days to claim their prize, and they can claim their winnings at any of 6 North Carolina official lottery headquarters. To learn more about the claiming procedure, visit The Lottery Lab!
The Pick 4 game generates more than $650 million each year for North Carolina education programs, according to the lottery.
