After winning a $150,000 Powerball prize, a North Carolina lottery player will be able to undergo knee replacement surgery.
Ronda Isaac, 57, of Lincolnton, North Carolina, will be able to undergo long-awaited double knee replacement surgery after winning the $150,000 Powerball jackpot earlier this month.
"I finally got my new knees," she exclaimed, laughing. "It's pretty exciting to work standing up all the time." With the 57-year-old mortician constantly on the move for her job, winning the prize was both a surprise and a relief.
"I was kind of stunned," Isaac admitted to the North Carolina Lottery. "I've never won anything big before."
Isaac purchased her winning Quick Pick ticket for the Powerball drawing on Saturday, January 7, 2023, using Online Play on the Lottery's mobile app.
"I enjoy using the app because it is so convenient," she added.
Her ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball, resulting in a $50,000 third-tier prize. When the 3X multiplier was drawn, Isaac's total winnings tripled to $150,000 because she added the Power Play option to her ticket. The winning numbers in the January 7 drawing were 35, 36, 44, 45, and 67, with the Powerball number being 14.
The winner came to Lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Tuesday to collect her prize, which was worth $106,876 after taxes. She plans to put whatever money is left over after the knee surgery into savings.
Matching four white balls and the Powerball number has a 1 in 913,129 chance of happening. Powerball drawings take place at 10:59 p.m. EST every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Each ticket costs $2.
